Mark DeSaulnier will fill the seat of retiring Rep. George Miller (D), who endorsed the state senator.

DeSaulnier has long been active in California politics, serving both in the state Assembly and Senate. Before heading to Sacramento, he served as mayor of Concord and was a supervisor for Contra Costa County for more than a decade.

He also made his mark in the private sector as the owner of three restaurants. DeSaulnier got his start working in a number of jobs after college, including as a probation officer and truck driver.

An avid marathon runner, DeSaulnier lives in Concord, where he raised his two grown sons.
