Seth Moulton defeated GOP candidate Richard Tisei to replace Democratic Rep. John Tierney. A political newcomer, Moulton pulled a shocking upset, defeating longtime North Shore incumbent Tierney in the Democratic primary.

Moulton, 36, is an Iraq War veteran who served four tours with the Marines, rising to the rank of captain. After his military service, he earned two master’s degrees, and founded Eastern Healthcare Partners. Moulton’s race garnered national attention, as Tisei sought to be the first openly gay Republican in Congress.
