North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District is switching parties, as Republican David Rouzer replaces retiring Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre. Rouzer lost a narrow race to McIntyre in 2012 before topping Democrat Jonathan Barfield, a local county commissioner, in this year’s general election.

Rouzer worked as a policy adviser to Sens. Jesse Helms (R) and Elizabeth Dole (R) on Capitol Hill. He later started his own consulting firm, the Rouzer Co., where he worked in small-business development. He also served two terms in the North Carolina state Senate, representing Johnston and Wayne counties from 2009 to 2013.

The representative-elect is unmarried and lives in McGee’s Crossroads.
