Alex Mooney has been in the political world since he graduated from Dartmouth College, winning election to the state Senate in his home state of Maryland at the age of 27.

He served there for 11 years and weighed a run for former Rep. Roscoe Bartlett’s (R-Md.) seat in 2012 before moving to West Virginia.

Backed by the Tea Party and the Madison Project, he won the Republican primary for West Virginia’s 2nd District, a seat left open by Rep. Shelley Moore Capito’s (R) Senate bid.

Mooney and his wife Grace live in Charles Town with their two young children and a newborn.
