Former national security adviser Jones joins General Dynamics board

Defense contractor General Dynamics announced Wednesday that James Jones, a former Marine Corps commandant and national security adviser, has joined its board of directors.

Jones was President Obama's national security adviser from January 2009 until November 2010. He was the commandant of the Marine Corps from July 1999 until January 2003, and what U.S. European Command chief from January 2003 until December 2006.

“Jim Jones’ depth of knowledge and experience in global security issues makes him a valuable addition to the General Dynamics board,” Jay Johnson, General Dynamics chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

General Dynamics make a number of combat platforms for the U.S. military, including submarines, ground vehicles, ships and IT systems. The company was the prime contractor on the Expeditionary Warfare Vehicle (EFV) program, which the Marine Corps terminated several months ago. GD is mulling whether to bid for a new program to design and field a new amphibious vehicle for the Marines.
