Made in
the USA

Let’s begin a national wave movement for Americans to buy American products, sold by American companies, made by American workers, to create American jobs and lift the American economy.

Tired of high unemployment, exported jobs, big deficits and low wages? Here is the answer. Let’s kick some butt, take some names, wave some flag and rise as a nation to buy some products made by red, white and blue American workers!

Throughout the land there is a fervent patriotism waiting to be tapped and a patriotic capitalism waiting to be born to lift the nation and mobilize Americans, from Tea Party voters to union workers, from the inner-city poor to rural America, from small businesses to American women and our veteran heroes.

Buy American. Every American can do it. No power on earth can stop us. Every time we buy an American product we help create jobs for American workers and profits for the companies that employ them. We grow our economy and lower our deficit in a great virtuous cycle.

Buy American. Each of us individually and together has the power to lift our land the way previous generations of Americans lifted America to defeat depression, prevail in war and soar to the moon in less than a decade.

In the coming weeks I will expand my call for a patriotic capitalism and Buy American movement with proposals that can win support across the spectrum of a divided America ready to be united and mobilized with a common purpose.

ABC’s “World News” has been running a long continuing series about “Made in America” that realizes a brilliant vision of what the medium of television can achieve.

I hope every reader will hunt down and watch every ABC News segment that profiles great American companies and products. Let’s give a standing ovation for Diane Sawyer, David Muir, Sharyn Alfonsi and everyone at ABC for what is obviously a labor of love for America and the heart and soul of our companies and workers.

One company profiled on ABC is the Annin Flag Co., based in New Jersey, with its largest factory in Ohio, one of the great original American makers of American flags.

Remember the first flag lifted by the Marines at Iwo Jima, the flags that lined Lincoln’s inaugural, the flag saluted by Neil Armstrong on the moon, and the flag lifted by firefighters after the terrorist attacks in New York?

Many of the American flags you see are made in China. Not these flags. These flags and many others were made by the proud American hands of the Annin Flag Co. and other companies in the Flag Manufacturers Association of America.

Let’s all wave our flags on Memorial Day and July 4 and make sure they are Made in the USA. Let’s support retailers who sell American-made flags and tell those who don’t that they should. Let’s take this Made in the USA movement across our nation and throughout our economy.

I’d like to see President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) jointly host a town hall for American workers at companies like Annin to inspire a nation ready to kick some butt, take some names, wave some flag and lift this land we love.
