Time to change birth law

By Paul Feiner - 05/02/11 07:36 PM ET

I was glad that President Obama released his birth certificate. As the parent of an adopted daughter from Russia I would have been happier if President Obama had urged the Congress to amend the Constitution to end the ridiculous requirement that a president of the United States must be born in the United States. Our nation has been blessed with United States secretaries of State, governors, senators, congressional leaders and corporate executives who would have made or could become terrific presidents. But, they are disqualified because they were born elsewhere.

I want my daughter to be able to reach for the top. And, to dream that nothing is impossible. Please — change the U.S. Constitution. Every American citizen should have the chance to seek the presidency.

Greenburgh, N.Y.
