Unwind at Banana Cafe The Banana Cafe & Piano Bar’s vibrant and spirited atmosphere is sure to lift the stress of a day at the office on Capitol Hill instantly. The restaurant lives up to its name, featuring a piano bar and live local entertainers on the restaurant’s second floor. The drink list is as long as the place is colorful, with more than 10 exotic and sweet beverages, such as the Mounds Bar Milkshake made with Malibu coconut rum and Godiva chocolate liqueur or the famous Mango Margarita the bar refers to as “the best in D.C.” A glass of any specialty drink ranges from $4.75 to $7.75, and pitchers range from $25 to $42. Seven dollars gets you a glass of sauvignon blanc from Cape Indaba, South Africa, while $7.50 earns you a glass of the finest pinot grigio from Pigrin, Italy. B. Smith features house white, red and pink wines. Bottles of house white wines such as pinot grigio blush and chenin blanc range from $31 to $62. Cabernet sauvignon and merlot wines are just two of the house reds at $31-$129 a bottle. Only two wines, white zinfandel and cinsault ros�, round out the house pinks, from $28 to $32. Searching for something a little bit more bubbly? Look to B. Smith’s sparkling-wine list. The list, with wines from places as far away as Argentina, consists of 10 lively selections priced at $7-$8 a glass and bottles as low as $28. Well, at least that’s what the designers were aiming for. And if the elegant, yet rustic design doesn’t hook you, then its imported wines and cocktails will. Urbana lives up to its wine-cellar setting, featuring 30 wines by the glass and more than 200 bottles of imported red and white French and Italian wines, according to its press release. Renowned mixologist Jacques Bezuinderhout prepares Urbana’s delectable cocktails. Bezuinderhout, a well-known face in San Francisco’s Harry Denton Starlight Room, even hosts seminars on the art of mixed drinks.
