Restaurant Briefs: Bar-hopping on the Fourth
Posted: 06/22/07 06:33 PM [ET]
The Liberty Bar Tour is coming to town for the Fourth, handing out patriotic leis and offering drinks to fit even a low-level staffer’s budget. A smattering of bars across D.C. will offer discounts on everything from Pilsner Urquell to Captain Morgan with food specials until midnight. Roam the participating bars of Rumors, Porters, Madhatter, Recessions, 4th Estate Grille, The Front Page, Ozio, Overtime Café, Steve’s Bar Room, Black Rooster Pub and Singapore Bistro. Tickets are $13. Bringing two cans of food to benefit Bread for the City will get you a discount on the ticket.

Register from 5-10 p.m. at Mackey’s at 1823 L St. NW on July 4.

À la Delicious

Take a trip to southern France and beyond at Poste Moderne Brasserie, where Chef Robert Weland hosts “A Flight and a Bite.” Discover how rosé wine complements different categories of cuisine. On the menu are slow-roasted wild Alaskan king salmon, red wine-poached quail egg, and rhubarb-raspberry floats with buttermilk sorbet. The menu is homegrown too — Weland harvests produce daily from his organic garden on the restaurant’s patio. Products coming from beyond his back porch are organic and support a sustainable environment. Wine pairings include three rosés: the Provencal Cinsault Chateau Miraval, 2005; Wolffer, the Hamptons, 2005, of Long Island; and Bernard Griffin 2006 of Columbia Valley in Washington state. The restaurant finds its home in the Hotel Monaco. The former mail-sorting room of the 1855 post office has an interior with 16-foot ceilings and a glassed-in bar pavilion. Original skylights help illuminate Weland’s work in his exhibition kitchen. Take your meal outside on the terrace next to potted herbs. The summer menu costs $25.

Poste Moderne Brasserie is located in the Hotel Monaco at 555 8th St. NW.
