McCain, Coburn press Hagel on Pentagon ‘duplication’

McCain and Coburn also sent a letter to then–Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in response to the 2012 GAO report.

While McCain is a vocal advocate of robust defense spending, he and Coburn have been frequent critics of Pentagon waste.

They held up the Senate’s continuing resolution to fund the government last month over alleged “pork-barrel spending” in the bill.

Coburn released a report last year that he said showed how the Pentagon could save $67.9 billion cutting “non-defense” defense spending.
