Ayotte keeps hold on Air Force secretary nominee

“I’ve got the initial answers, and some of them were inadequate, so I’ve issued some follow-ups, and I’m waiting for those, and then I’ll decide whether I’ll lift my hold,” Ayotte said.

“If I get my answers, I’ll lift my hold. There were some of the initial answers that I didn’t think were sufficient,” she said. “They’re basic questions. They should be able to answer them for me.”

Ayotte said she is not asking for assurances from the Air Force they won’t cut the A-10 fleet, but she wants to know the service’s plans so Congress can weigh a response.

“Then we can consider the information here and decide whether Congress wants to take any action on it,” she said. “People in Congress are entitled to know because it’s a matter of protection for our troops.”
