Salazar has touted various reforms following a series of Bush-era ethics scandals. But the department has also come under fire for failing to ensure better protections at the BP drilling project that went catastrophically awry in the Gulf.
Salazar is also facing daily criticism from several Gulf Coast lawmakers for the six-month federal ban on deepwater oil-and-gas drilling. They allege the ban is too broad and will impose economic harm on the region.
