EU denies attempt to hide greenhouse gas emissions

The European Union's plea for more time to calculate its greenhouse gas emissions levels is not an attempt to hide its emissions, an EU envoy told Bloomberg.

A 2015 deal is unrealistic, said Juergen Lefevere, a climate envoy for the bloc, at talks in Poland.

Lefevere told Bloomberg that the review of the nation's emissions will take more than a year to complete and noted it had nothing to do with transparency.

The climate talks, which finish Friday, aim to establish a treaty by 2015 that would limit fossil-fuel emissions.
