Hurricane Arthur forecast to hit Category 2

Hurricane Arthur is expected to gain momentum off the South Carolina coast going into Friday, becoming a Category 2 storm, according to forecasters.

Arthur is now projected to reach 105 mph winds when it passes through parts of North and South Carolina.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) urged residents to follow any evacuation orders going into the July Fourth weekend, the Charlotte Observer reports.

“With our coastal communities bustling during one of the biggest weekends for tourism in the region, the safety of our coastal residents and visitors remains our top priority,” McCrory said.

The National Hurricane Center issued a warning for the entire coast of North Carolina.
