Oil-and-gas industry groups, many lawmakers and others support expanded exports at a time when U.S. gas production is booming.
But the proposals are politically controversial.
Some prominent Democrats, including Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), fear increased domestic prices and higher costs for U.S. manufacturers that rely on gas.
