Sen. Boxer wants Markey on environment committee

“I would be thrilled if he could,” Boxer told reporters Wednesday when asked about Markey filling the vacancy if he wins.

“It is going to be up to [Senate Majority Leader] Harry Reid [(D-Nev.)], but of course I would be thrilled because Ed is such a very strong proponent of clean air and safe drinking water, and he is such a strong voice when it comes to the oil companies polluting, and he has the ocean right there and he gets why it is so important to protect it,” Boxer said, who noted she served with Markey in the House.

She added: “But it is a lot of other considerations when you start putting people on committees. It is very complicated.”

Boxer said she has not spoken with Markey about the prospect.
