Energy secretary heading to Brazil for climate talks

An early 2012 Energy Information Administration report on Brazil’s energy sector listed the country as the world’s 13th largest crude oil producer, with roughly 2 million barrels per day of production.

Brazil is also a member of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, a multilateral gathering that brings together the world’s largest greenhouse gas producers.

President Obama’s second-term climate plan calls for stepped-up collaboration through the group on energy efficiency.

The Energy secretary’s trip to South America also includes a visit to Paraguay. Moniz is leading the U.S. presidential delegation there for the inauguration of President-elect Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara on Aug. 15.
