Chemistry group hires lobbyist

The American Chemistry Council, an active participant in energy policy debates on Capitol Hill, hired a former healthcare lobbyist to run its government relations team.

Walter Moore will start at ACC on Feb. 8, the group announced. He previously was a lobbyist at Genentech, a biotech company. He is also a former aide to then-Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-Texas).

Moore replaces Marty Durbin, who left ACC to run the lobbying team at the American Petroleum Institute. In recent years, ACC has lobbied for more natural gas production in hopes of lowering natural gas prices. Chemical companies often use natural gas as a feedstock for their products. The group also was an earlier backer of the stimulus bill and its energy efficiency programs, which often rely on chemical products.
