The ongoing cleanup effort is consuming the agency's
attention, said MMS, the Interior Department branch that regulates
offshore oil production.
“The ongoing situation with the Transocean Deepwater Horizon drilling accident has caused the MMS to dedicate considerable resources to the successful resolution of this event, which will conflict with holding this ceremony next week,” MMS said.
MMS did not announce a new date for the 2010 Annual Industry SAFE Awards Luncheon, which was slated to occur in Houston.
Last week’s explosion at the Deepwater Horizon rig is believed to have killed 11 workers. It has also created an ongoing oil spill that federal and BP crews are struggling to contain.
