Markey, Capps seek ‘blue-ribbon commission’ to probe Gulf spill

They noted that similar commissions were established in the wake of the 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear power plant accident and the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.

Both lawmakers are members of the Energy and Commerce Committee, which begins hearings into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill next week. Markey is chairman of its Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.
