Dem blasts cuts in 2012 energy, water appropriations bill

In a statement, Dicks also points out the bill cuts $42 million from funding to clean up nuclear waste from defense activities.

The GOP believes that the cuts have been carefully tailored to keep priorities intact.

“The subcommittee has worked hard to ensure that our highest priorities – defense of our country and support for American innovation and competitiveness – receive critical funding.   At the same time, the recommendation cuts back on programs with large unspent balances, ensuring that every hard-earned taxpayer dollar will be well spent,” Energy and Water Subcommittee Appropriations Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen said in a statement.
