Geithner's trips around Capitol Hill mark what is shaping up to a busy day of meetings between economic and budget officials and lawmakers working to avert the cliff.
Doug Elmendorf, the head of the Congressional Budget Office, met with members of the Senate Finance Committee earlier in the day, and the panel has afternoon meetings scheduled with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Tom Barthold, the chief of staff for the Joint Committee on Taxation.
The Treasury Department declined to comment on Geithner's visits today.
