Congressional Democrats have also latched on to Werfel’s decision to suspend certain watch lists that he said were inappropriately scrutinizing applicants. Those lists included both liberal and conservative groups, according to information from the IRS that was released this week.

Werfel received praise from both sides of the aisle in his initial testimony before the House this month, but GOP lawmakers also made clear that his honeymoon would be short.
