House passes anti-abortion bill

“Over and over again, we repeat the premise that somehow we’re using government funds through the Affordable Care Act for abortion. We are not,” Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said.

Democrats also chided Republicans for bringing to the floor a bill that does not even purport to create jobs, and said the bill is an affront to women’s constitutional rights.

“This legislation is an extreme and mean-spirited way to roll back women’s rights,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said.

A similar anti-abortion measured, passed by the House this spring, has not come up for a vote in the Senate.
