The group also cited a Northwestern University survey of tanning facilities. Eighty percent of tanning salons in Illinois said they expect to pas the cost of the tax on to their customers.
"The tanning tax is a harmful ploy to fund the government’s new, $1.76 trillion health care leviathan. It negatively impacts small businesses, their many employees, and middle-income Americans," Americans for Tax Reform said in a statement.
The group said roughly 160,000 people are employed by tanning salons in the United States.
