But any nominee for any healthcare post in the Obama administration would be a hard sell in the deeply divided Senate. The Finance Committee didn't even hold a hearing on Tavenner's last nomination.

Tavenner has been acting CMS administrator since her previous nomination.

She succeeded Don Berwick, who was a widely respected academic before his nomination, where he became entangled in a political controversy over comments that Republicans saw as an endorsement of healthcare rationing.
