Wegmans grocery chain cuts healthcare for part-time workers

Before the delay, other large companies had begun to cap employees at 29 hours per week to avoid providing health insurance. Critics say the law is prompting employers to hire part-time workers so that they can avoid the mandate.

Wegmans did not comment specifically on whether it had dropped part-time workers' coverage.

"It’s a given that health care reform will result in some changes to our benefits program, but it will not change our commitment to meeting the needs of our employees,” Wegmans said in a statement to the News.
