AARP unveils websites to help consumers navigate ObamaCare

The top U.S. senior lobby is launching online tools to help consumers navigate ObamaCare and their new coverage options.

AARP announced Monday that it has launched two websites — and — ahead of the enactment of the healthcare reform's major provisions.

The group said the efforts are part of a wider campaign to educate consumers about the law, which it has supported in the past.

"We know that the law is confusing," said AARP Vice President Nicole Duritz. "What we're trying to do is get people in front of resources where they can get answers."

The two websites offer basic information about how the Affordable Care Act functions and what benefits it offers. Portions of the sites are directed at different healthcare stakeholders — seniors, younger people and small business owners, for example.

One site contains a dynamic form where users can enter their state, age, income and other basic details and receive a personalized memo to help them navigate their options.

Neither site offers political commentary nor responses to common criticisms of the healthcare law.

"It's not about the politics," Duritz said on a conference call with reporters.

"It's about my life and what this means to me," she said, referring to a site visitor.

Major healthcare interests are gearing up to help consumers understand ObamaCare ahead of Jan. 1, when coverage kicks in on the insurance marketplaces.

Walgreens and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association already announced a partnership to provide basic information about the law in store locations around the country.

In addition to its online tools, AARP is conducting outreach through its state offices and in partnerships with other health and community organizations.

The Hispanic Federation, 100 Black Men of America and the American Heart Association are three groups that will be working with AARP, said Duritz.
