Clinton, Annan discuss peace plan alternatives for Syria

The United States, Great Britain and France are reportedly drawing up a sanctions resolution, but China and Syrian ally Russia have vetoed such measures in the past.

“Syria is a real, real challenge,” Annan said. “Some say the plan may be dead. Is the problem the plan, or … implementation? If it's implementation, how do we get action on that? And if it's with the plan, what other options do we have? So all these questions are now being discussed and we are also exploring how we can work with other governments in the region and around the world to achieve our goals.”

Clinton said the goal of the meeting is to “engender greater response by the government of Syria to the six-point plan that [Annan] has put forth.”
