US court strikes down law allowing Americans born in Jerusalem to list Israel as birthplace

"Having reviewed the Constitution’s text and structure, Supreme Court precedent and longstanding post-ratification history, we conclude that the President exclusively holds the power to determine whether to recognize a foreign sovereign," Judge Karen Henderson wrote for the panel on Tuesday.

The case against the government was brought by the parents of Menachem Zivotofsky, who was born in Jerusalem in 2002 shortly after the law was adopted.
