The EU agreed to suspend “export licenses to Egypt of any equipment which might be used for internal repression” and called on member states to review their security assistance to Egypt. The EU provides $190 million in annual military aid to Egypt.

The EU, however, left in place economic aid and assistance to civil society, citing the economic crisis in the Arab world's most populous country.

“The EU will monitor the situation in Egypt closely and readjust its cooperation accordingly,” the 27-member bloc said.
