Kerry demands UN action next week on Syria

President Obama is under great pressure to ensure that any U.N. resolution contains strong safeguards after calling off military action against Syria, after Russia offered to get Assad to turn over his chemical weapons to the international community.

The administration faced its first setback this week when Syria looked likely to miss its first deadline with the country failing to produce an inventory of its chemical weapons stockpiles by Saturday.

“Time is short,” Kerry said. “Let's not spend time debating what we already know.”
