Abbas calls for 'end to all conflict with Israel' in first UN speech as president of Palestine

Abbas went on to call for an end to Israeli settlements and the release of 5,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. He gave the peace talks nine months to deliver results.

“History,” Abbas said, teaches that “waging war, occupation, settlements and walls may provide temporary quiet and temporary domination; they certainly do not and cannot ensure real security or guarantee sustainable peace.”
