Congress shifts focus to Somali threat

“We've been planning it for months,” a Senate panel staffer told The Hill, “but Nairobi will certainly be a part of it now. You really can't talk about Somalia and governance without talking about al-Shabaab.”

Tuesday's Senate panel hearing is slated to include newly minted Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield; the Pentagon's  Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Amanda Dory; and Nancy Lindborg, the U.S. Agency for International Development's assistant administrator for democracy, conflict, and humanitarian assistance.
