Russia doesn't think Trump's Afghan plan will induce positive change: report

Russia reportedly doesn't think the plan President Trump announced Monday on Afghanistan will bring benefits.

Citing an unnamed Russian Foreign Ministry source, the Interfax news agency reported that Russia does not think Trump's strategy will result in positive changes, Reuters reported.

Trump on Monday announced he would not pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan. He said he is committed to a new strategy aimed at winning the nation's longest war.

Trump said during his prime-time address that a rapid exit from the war-torn nation would leave a major power vacuum that would create a new safe haven for terrorists.

He said his "original instinct was to pull out" but added the calculation is different "when you sit behind the desk in the Oval Office."

“The American people are weary of war without victory. I share the American people’s frustration,” Trump said, adding, “In the end, we will fight and we will win.”
