Iran chased away US spy plane, drone: report

An Iranian military commander said the country’s air defense force made both a United States spy plane and a drone alter their flight plans within the last few months, Reuters reported Sunday.

Iran’s Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili reportedly said air defenses intercepted a drone last week and warded off a spy plane in March.

“When the warning was given to the pilot of this (U2) plane at the Strait of Hormuz, he knew that he was being targeted by two separate radars ... and missile systems,” Esmaili said.

Esmaili’s comments come several days after Reuters reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency has found Iran to be in compliance with the terms of the nuclear accord negotiated in 2015.
