The percentage of campaign contributions that campaigns raise online has soared compared to this time two years ago, according to a study released on Wednesday.
NGP, a company that provides software to Democratic campaigns, said that its clients now accept almost 30 percent of their contributions through the Internet.
The company said the figure represents a 62 percent increase since this quarter in 2008.
“NGP’s analysis shows that many Democratic campaigns are running more sophisticated online fundraising efforts in 2010, and as a result they’re raising dramatically more online,” said NGP CEO Stu Trevelyan.
The analysis looked only at fundraising for elections in 2008 and 2010.
NGP attributed the growth to increased comfort with online giving, increased sophistication in online campaign outreach, and greater use of social networking.
NGP says it has more than 1,700 campaign-related clients and a majority of Democratic campaigns using their online fundraising tools.
