Races that impact tech and telecom policy
Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) was chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee until Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) replaced him for the current session of Congress. He has been heavily involved in telecom issues over the years. Early in the decade, he introduced a bill to relieve phone companies of regulatory barriers delaying broadband buildout. More recently, he has weighed in with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) against reclassification of broadband services. He is a net-neutrality supporter.
Dingell found himself in a tougher-than-expected reelection race this year. His opponent is Republican Rob Steele. Forecasters say the race is leaning in Dingell's direction.
