FCC 'overwhelmingly' halted if government shuts down

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski said agency functions will largely stop in the event of a government shut down.

"Overwhelmingly the FCC is shut down" should the government close, he said at a press conference on Thursday.

He said his managing director's office is exploring contingency scenarios for how to move forward in the event of a shutdown.

Update: An FCC spokesman later added that the agency's focus would be on public safety and the protection of property.
