Steve Berry, the president of the Rural Cellular Association, and Parul Desai, a policy advisor at Consumers Union, will testify before the House Judiciary Competition subcommittee on Thursday about the AT&T merger with T-Mobile.
Consumers Union and RCA have each been vocal critics of the merger. CU, which is buying ads that criticize the merger, has questioned whether prices will rise if the low-cost carrier T-Mobile is absorbed into AT&T. RCA, an association of small and midsize wireless companies as well as Sprint, has served as a key industry voice opposing the deal.
AT&T's chief executive Randall Stephenson and the leader of T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom, Rene Obermann, will also testify in the second of what is expected to be at least four congressional hearings.
