Facebook and members of Congress will team up for the first-ever congressional hackathon on Wednesday afternoon at the Capital Visitor Center.
The event will bring members of Congress from both parties together with congressional staffers, Facebook engineers and software developers to explore how to connect legislative data, correspondence from constituents and social media. The event is organized by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
The event will begin with House officials announcing new data that has been made public for the first time, followed by updates to the Open Graph protocol Facebook recently announced. There will also be four breakout discussion groups focusing on areas of congressional engagement with the public.
