News bites: Thousands of sites join protest of piracy bills

Thousands of websites joined the protest of the House's Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Senate's Protect IP Act on Wednesday, including Google, Wikipedia, reddit, Mozilla, BuzzfeedWordPress, craigslist, Boing BoingWired, MoveOn, Raw Story, the Consumer Electronics Association, Imgur and Cheezburger.   

Facebook did not shut down but did post a page describing its opposition to the bills.

The Wall Street Journal defended the legislation in an editorial.
