White House launches new mobile app

The White House also publicly released the app's source code, allowing anyone to change the app or use it to build their own projects.

President Obama ordered federal agencies earlier this year to develop apps to help the public gain access to government information and services on their mobile devices.

In a blog post announcing the new app, Peter Welsch, the White House's deputy director of Online Platform, said that 15.7 percent of all visits to the White House's website now come from mobile devices.

In addition to the new app, the White House also redesigned how its main website appears on the small screen of mobile devices.
