News bites: FTC probes Google's smartphone patents

The Federal Trade Commission is looking at Google's use of standard-essential patents as part of its broad antitrust investigation of the company, The New York Times reports.

According to The Wall Street Journal, IBM has played a key role in the success of Chinese telecom company Huawei, which has been labeled a national security threat in the United States.

The Journal also reports that the Chinese government hinted that U.S. suspicion over Chinese telecom companies will strain relations between the countries.

Canada plans to exclude Huawei from a government network, Reuters writes.

The Supreme Court of the Philippines suspended implementation of a controversial anti-cybercrime law, The Associated Press reports.
