Adding Oracle to its membership roster is a key pickup for BSA, which already counts tech giants Microsoft, Apple and Intel as members. BSA recently underwent a branding revamp and unveiled a new name and logo last month, which reflect its policy objectives, the group said.
BSA's lobbying agenda is now largely focused on clamping down on software piracy, fighting trade barriers and fostering growth in the cloud computing market. The group has also been active on cybersecurity policy.
The trade group faced some criticism last year when it did not initially voice opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act. BSA later voiced concerns about the anti-piracy bill and said the measure needed additional work before it moved forward.
