Google-owned YouTube offers free live stream service for Congress

The Senate Rules and Administration Committee said it had previously authorized a live stream service with Ustream, but the company charges a fee for the service, according to a letter to Senate members from the committee leaders.

The new live stream arrangement is another example of Google working to expand its Web products' footprint in government. President Obama and Vice President Biden have both participated in Google Plus Hangouts this year. YouTube also live streamed the State of the Union address and the Republican response to the president's speech.
