Report: Amazon, Dish Network exploring wireless partnership

Amazon and Dish Network are reportedly exploring ways to partner in order to tackle the wireless market.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Jeff Bezos and Charlie Ergen, the respective CEOs of Amazon and Dish, have become acquainted over the past year and are looking into partnering on potential projects.

Ideas the two are exploring include building an internet of things network for Amazon services or giving Amazon Prime members the option to buy into a phone service.

The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that the talks are still in early stages and there's no guarantee the two sides will reach a deal.

The report also stresses that an Amazon acquisition of Dish would be highly unlikely.

The news comes as nearly every major telecom firm is exploring mergers or other partnerships as the Trump administration signals a shift to a more lenient approach to antitrust policy.

Amazon also recently announced its plans to buy the upscale grocery chain Whole Foods.
