In fact, Google CEO Eric Schmidt visited the FCC just last week to thank Genachowski for his leadership in proposing the rules.
House Republicans said in a letter sent yesterday to Genachowski that wireless companies, handset makers and application developers should be able to strike partnerships and exclusive deals to cater to customers and stay competitive.
Democratic public interest groups have questioned whether exclusive partnerships, like the one between AT&T and Apple’s iPhone, are best for the consumers. While it appears that the Verizon-Google partnership is not an exclusive one, it will be interesting to see how it fits into the larger debates going on at the FCC right now.
