White House unveils open-government dashboard

But agencies' open government plans are due April 7. That's what Chopra calls "the next big step."

"The Plans present a special opportunity for the Dashboard to evolve over time and empower the public while spurring a race to the top amongst agencies," he said. "We are eager to seek your input in this process, so keep an eye out for opportunities to weigh in over the next two weeks."

The Dashboard will become more comprehensive as agencies meet the other deadlines. But metrics have not yet been established to measure agencies' actual progress.
