"At the request of the captain, the flight returned to the gate where it was met by TSA and law enforcement," Riley continued. "The passenger was arrested and the flight continued to its destination, landing without incident in Atlanta at 7:05 pm EDT.”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday the passenger was subdued after he tried to open the emergency exit while the plane was 30,000 feet in the air.
Passengers told the paper the man was prevented from opening the door by other travelers.
“It seemed that he retreated, and the passengers backed off,” passenger Katie Hindman told the newspaper. “But he made a second run for it, and a big group of guys tackled him.”
